Basic Cookie Dough Recipe - for Cookie Cutters

There are many recipes for basic cut-out type cookie dough that are especially good for making shaped cookies. This recipe is great to use for any holiday or just for fun anytime of year. You can make heart shapes for Valentines Day, egg, bunnies or chicks for Easter; Santa, bells or wreaths for Christmas, turkeys for Thanksgiving, gingerbread men or teddy bears for everyday. The possibilities are endless. This recipe is one of the easiest to work with and the results are always excellent.
Have fun making cookies with your children or grandchildren. Decorate them, until your hearts desire. You are not only are making your own unique designed, delicious cookies but you're also creating wonderful memories that you and your child or grandchild will remember through their entire lives.
Basic Cut-out Cookie Dough The Ingredients
Ingredients;
1/2 pound butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups all purpose flour-sifted
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
Basic Cut-out Cookie Dough - Directions
In large mixing bowl; Cream together, butter and sugar. Whip until it's fluffy
Add the egg and vanilla. Blend .
Sift the flour, baking soda and salt.
Add to the egg and sugar mixture.
Blend to mix well.
Place dough into the refrigerator and let chill thoroughly.
Divide dough into 3 equal parts
press or roll dough out to about 1/8"
If using cookie cutters; dip the edges in flour before cutting through the dough. Repeat this step for each cookie.
Grease the cookie sheet or spray with Pam
Place cookies about 1" apart
Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, or until light brown at edges.
Place on a wire rack to cool.
When cool, glaze the cookies and decorate as desired.
This recipe will make about 5 dozen cut-out cookies
Sugar Glaze
Ingredients;
1 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
food coloring (optional)
Directions;
Combine sugar, corn syrup, milk and vanilla. Blend well.
If you want to make different glaze colors; divide the glaze into small cups or bowls. Add different food colors to achieve desired color. Cover with damp cloth, until ready to use.
